Salmon Fishing
World-Class King Salmon fishing can be found in the saltwater of
Cook Inlet all summer long.
There are two distinct king
salmon runs. The First Run begins about the 1st of May and runs
through the 10th of June. The second run begins about the 20th
of June and run through July 31.
First Run Kings average 20 - 40 pounds with a few weighing in
over 50 pounds. The trophies are not as large in this run, but
the fishing is usually faster and the Kings are more plentiful.
The Second
Run is when we catch the Trophy King Salmon. The world record is
over 90 pounds, the Lodge record is 85 pounds and several 100
pound Kings have been caught in local subsistence nets over the
past years. This means the New World Record passes in front of
the Lodge every year. Approximately half of the Kings caught at
Casa de Kings during the second run exceed 40 pounds!
The Silver
Salmon begin to reach the shores of the Cook Inlet in late July
and early August. The limit is more liberal on these Salmon.
Silvers are a sporty catch, typically ranging from 10 - 15
pounds. Fishing can be intense and exciting.
